Upper Narada Falls

I've posted several pictures of the lower falls, much larger and much more beautiful. These, the upper falls, go almost unnoticed since they are just above and only drop twenty feet. I wanted to post at least one picture of them, though, and here it is.

Narada Falls is on the Paradise River in Mount Rainier National Park and drops 168 feet into a steep gorge. It is along the Mount Rainier Highway, but to see the falls from this vantage point a short hike is necessary.

Narada Falls is along the Mount Rainier Highway between Longmire and Paradise. There is a viewing area for the falls, but from the viewing area one looks straight down on the top of the lower (and larger) falls. This photo was taken from the viewing area and looks down into the canyon below. To see the falls as shown below it is necessary to hike a short ways down the canyon where there is another viewpoint. Narada Falls is actually composed of two cascades, the upper, which is visible from the viewing area, drops twenty feet (6 meters) and the lower, shown here, which drops 168 feet (51 meters). The falls are on the Paradise River. They were named after the Narada Theosophical Society of Tacoma, "narada" a Hindu word meaning "pure."

Taken from a viewpoint across from the falls and across a deep glacial canyon, these falls are on the Paradise River and drop 159 feet. Only the top of the falls are visible from the overlook and parking lot along the road to Paradise. These are one of the more beautiful of many falls in the National Park and the short hike to the viewpoint should not be missed, though the area is presently closed for repairs.
