This formation is near the Crystal Forest area of Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona and is known as "The Battleship."

Taken near the headquarters area of Petrified Forest National Park, these are some of the petrified logs that litter the park.

In February, 2020, we were traveling from Carlsbad and the Guadalupe Mountains in New Mexico to the Grand Canyon and drove past the entrance to Petrified Forest National Park. My wife, who loves rocks, wanted to stop. I wanted to get to the Grand Canyon but she prevailed and we spent part of day at Petrified Forest and were glad we had done so. There are petrified trees and parts of trees everywhere in the park. The photos I've posted were taken in the Crystal Forest area of the park and near the headquarters where we hiked the trails through the hills.

In Explore October 28, 2009, #445. This photo was taken in Vantage, Washington, at the Ginko Petrified Forest State Park. The park is on the shore of the Wanapum Reservoir of the Columbia River and includes petrified logs from as many as fifty species of trees, including ginkgo, sweetgum, redwood, Douglas fir, walnut, spruce, elm, maple, horse chestnut, cottonwood, magnolia, madrone, sassafras, yew, and witch hazel. It is one the few sites where petrified ginko trees are found. This photo is obviously of a living tree, one of many planted from seed in the 1960's. The area also includes indian petroglyphs rescued from the cliffs overlooking the Columbia when the Wanapum Dam was built. We stopped there for a little while on our way to Spokane last week.
