RHH's photos with the keyword: columbia plateau

This is up on the Columbia Plateau somewhere in Douglas County if I remember., and a typical eastern Washington scene with the abandoned farm buildings and the endless wheat fields. We often travel the back roads looking for scenes like this and stopping to photograph them when we do find something memorable.

Taken along Highway 2 in eastern Washington on the Columbia Plateau, an area still heavily farmed, but where most of the smaller farms have long ago been abandoned. We've stopped before to photograph this old house and another picture, taken in the spring is posted below. The house is gradually deteriorating and will, I suppose, eventually be destroyed.

On our way to Spokane last August we drove across the Columbia plateau while the wheat was being harvested and stopped often for pictures. This is rather typical of the area, rolling country with few trees and a lot of abandoned farms, houses and vehicles. My wife took this picture and because hers was better than mine I posted hers.

This was taken in eastern Washington on the Columbia Plateau, a vast area of irrigated farms, endless vistas and huge skies - difficult to capture in pictures, but always beautiful. The title comes from the Woody Guthrie Song, "This Land is Your Land." "As I was walking a ribbon of highway. I saw above me an endless skyway. I saw below me a golden valley. This land was made for you and me."
