We were in Yellowstone briefly on our way to Michigan and Indiana and one of the places we visited was the Mammoth Hot Springs area on the north end of the park. This is Orange Spring Mound which can be seen along the Upper Terraces Drive. It seems to be always active and is known for the brilliant colors of the algae in the hot water which forms the mound. The photo was taken in early evening as the sun was going down, but the glare on the mound required some underexposure as well.
