Photographed on a rainy day in Sinlahekin Natural Area. Black Hawthorn, Crataegus douglasii grows at lower elevations throughout the Northwest and is often a home for magpie nests.

This is where we were this morning, at Connors Lake in Sinlahekin Wildlife Area. We were on our way back from eastern Washington and stopped here for a couple of hours. It had rained during the night and the fog was still hanging over the lakes and in the valleys.

This was taken on the way to the Sinlahekin Natural Area which is across the mountains from us but requires an hour's drive south, then crossing the mountains and then another hour's drive north, since there is no pass nearby. We stopped early in the morning to photograph this lonely cabin in a lush valley north of Sinlahekin. The contrast between the green of the valley and the barrenness of the hills was rather striking, or so I thought.

Taken in the Sinlahekin Natural Area of eastern Washington early in the morning on an orchid hunting trip. The area is long north-south valley on the east side of the Cascades and rather remote. There were few people around when we visited. The lake is Connor Lake at the north end of the valley.

Sinlahekin Wildlife Area is a rather remote are on the east side of the Cascades and south of the Canadian border. It includes the Sinlahekin Valley, a glacial valley with steep sides and a number of beautiful lakes. This, if I remember correctly, is Connors Lake in the north of the valley. We were there several times recently since the valley is a haven for wildlife, birds and plants and took this picture early in the morning on one of those trips. I've been posting a lot of wildlife pictures and decided to post some other shots for a while.
