Fendler's Waterleaf, Hydrophyllum fendleri, is a fairly common spring wildflower in the northwest. This example was photographed in northern Oregon in the Columbia River gorge along old Highway 30.

Hydrophyllum tenuipes is another very common wildflower in our area and one that often goes unnoticed. It is very beautiful when seen up close, however, and both rhizomes and leaves are edible. This was photographed near Lake Padden in the Chuckanut Mountains.
