This was taken on my way to the Chain Lakes trailhead. I stopped briefly here at Picture Lake for photos of Mount Shuksan and it was good I did so since I did not see Mount Shuksan again except for brief glimpses through the clouds and mist that soon rolled in.

This is Mount Shuksan from across Picture Lake. The photo was taken early in the morning on the way to the trailhead for Galena-Chain Lakes, and this was the last I saw of Shuksan. It soon disappeared into the clouds and I did not see it again.

Mount Shuksan and Picture Lake are one of the most photographed spots in the United States and photos from this spot oir nearby are often seen on calendars. Picture Lake (here frozen over) is near the Mount Baker ski area in the North Cascades. Over the holidays we had family members staying with us including my parents who are in their 80's and my son-in-law and daughter and their children. My son-in-law and I took my parents on a drive to this area on one of the few clear days we had, a drive my parents enjoyed immensely. This was one of the pictures we took from one of our stops along the road and it almost identical to my son-in-law's picture, taken with a Nikon rather than a Canon - www.ipernity.com/doc/553843/36508602 . Picture Lake lies at the end of the mount Baker Highway in the shadow both of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker, and is one of the most photographed spots in the whole Pacific Northwest.
