These are considered an invasive and noxious weed in the USA , but they certainly are beautiful and the Goldfinches love the seeds in the winter. We try to keep them out of the yard since they are very prickly but they grow in the wild area next to the yard and we leave them there.

When visiting our son in Spokane we often go the Manito City Park, the most beautiful city park I have ever seen. This shot was taken there last week, but I've added a blog entry with numerous other pictures from the park: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/08/manito-city... I hope you'll take the time to look and to visit the park if you are ever in the area of Spokane.
This was taken on a sunny day and the bees were everywhere. I did not notice, however, until I looked at my pictures, that I had gotten a bee in this photo, and in focus, too. Was quite chuffed that it turned out so nicely.

I don't even remember for sure where this picture was taken, though I think it was in the Devonian Botanic Gardens near Edmonton.

Taken in Washington Park in Anacortes. We are traveling (were in Mount Rainier National Park all day today, and will be in the Bald Hills tomorrow to see the Fairy Slippers in bloom) and will not be home until later tomorrow. My apologies for the delay in returning comments and awards.
