This orchid species, Masdevallia decumana, from Peru and Ecuador, was only discovered in 1982. It is small in size, cool to cold growing, from high elevations in the cloud forests of the Andes. The species name, decumana, is from the Latin word "decumanus" which refers to the large size of the flower in relation to the plant.
