Hiking to Berg Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia, we had at this point covered the most difficult part of the trail, though we still had 8 km to go. This was one of our best views of Emperor Falls before actually taking a side trail to the falls a little further up. After dropping 46 meters over Emperor Falls the Robson River flows away on the right of photo along a channel in the cliff face before dropping again into the valley at the Falls of the Pool.,

This was taken as we climbed the 4 km of Emperor Hill in Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia and had our first glimpse of Emperor Falls. The days was clearing and the trail had lost some of its steepness, so we had a new impetus to go on.

This was the best photo I could get at Emperor Falls when we took the side trail to the falls along the way to Berg Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park. Mount Robson is the peak in the background and I would have liked a better photo of both falls and peak but the breeze was blowing the spray directly at us and the sun was right above the peak.

On the second day of our backpacking trip to Berg Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia, the weather began to clear as we struggled up the four kilometers of Emperor Hill. As we approached the top we could hear the roar of Emperor Falls and had occasional glimpses of the falls (see insets). Just before the Emperor Falls campground there was a short side trail to the falls which we followed, but the light and the spray of the falls made a good photo impossible. This was the best photo I was able to get and this was taken before we reached the falls. Interestingly, the river below the falls runs in a channel on the side of a cliff for quite a distance before dropping down into the valley at the Falls of the Pool.

Taken through the mist and in the early morning sunlight from Emperor Hill on the Berg Lake trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park, this is one of the few places that the falls can be seen other than from a short side trail to the bottom of the falls where the second picture was taken. Below the falls the Robson River runs in a channel on the side of a cliff face, the most unusual place for a river that I have ever seen.
