Lotus Moon

This is the Art Science Museum on the Singapore waterfront. The design of the building is inspired by the lotus flower. This picture was taken on an evening walk along the waterfront when the moon was rising. The photo was handheld (actually the camera was braced on a handrail) since we had been to dinner with friends and I did not have a tripod with me. It was shot at ISO4000, and is a bit grainy, but that was the only way to get the shot.

Photographed along the Singapore Waterfront at Marina Bay. The picture shows the lotus-shaped entrance building to the Art-Science Museum, the Marina Bay Sands Casino, which was putting on a laser light show at the time this photo was taken, as well as the rising moon. The photo was taken by my wife, who as usual, got better pictures than I did.

In Explore November 26, 2011, #472. Taken at the Night Safari in Singapore. This incredible nighttime zoo features nocturnal animals and birds and is open only at night. Photography was a real challenge since the lighting is very poor, flash is not allowed, and even though I had a tripod I had to take time exposures to get decent shots, something not always possible when the creatures were moving.

The Durian

This is the Singapore Opera House on the Esplanade in downtown Singapore. It has been named "the Durian" for its shape, so like the "king of fruits," and though often criticized seems to be a building of which the Singaporeans are very proud. We thought it was beautiful. The photo was taken at a high ISO and the camera was handheld and braced on a railing, so it is not as sharp as it could be, nor is it free from "noise" but it was the best I could do under the circumstances, and is a nice reminder of our time in the beautiful island city of Singapore.
