On our way to Edmonton two weeks ago we stopped briefly at Mount Robson Provincial Park and I hiked a ways up the Berg Lake Trail. My wife stayed in the car and slept with a bad headache. I went as far as the Kinney Lake campground and found a few of these, Cypripedium passerinum, still in bloom. This was very late for these to be in flower at all, but the lateness is due to our cold and wet weather. There were also a few of the Large Yellow Lady's Slipper in bloom as well as thousands of the Small Round-leaf Orchis. There had been rain the night before and the trails were very muddy but the rain only made the flowers more photogenic. The mosquitoes were also quite bad, too, though not as bad as in Edmonton, and that made the photography even more challenging. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/07/c...

Platanthera obtusata is rather common in some areas and not a very large plant, but beautiful up close. This was photographed on the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia. It grows and blooms in profusion in the woods on the east side of Kinney Lake. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/08/p...
