Again, this hawk was photographed near King's Canyon National Park and tentatively identified as a Red-tailed Hawk, though after looking again at the photos, I do not think it is that.

I had identified this as a Red-tailed Hawk but after looking at the photos again I do not think it is a Red-tail. I'll have to doing some searching later in the day and try to get a better ID. The bird was photographed near King's Canyon National Park in California. Later. After looking again, I'm inclined to identify this as a Ferruginous Hawk, Buteo regalis, and have changed the name on the photo. I am willing to be corrected, however, and hope someone knows better than I do.

These Sequoia trees were photographed near the car park for the General Grant tree. We walked the trails here, some of the few trails open in King's Canyon National Park.

While in California recently we spent a day at King's Canyon National Park and several days in Sequoia National Park. Though many trails and areas of the park were still closed on account of snow we were able to see the Sequoias which my wife had never seen and I only once as a young child. One of the short trails we were able to take took us to the General Grant tree, the world's third largest tree by volume. It is 40 feet (12 m) in diameter at the base, 268 feet (82 m) in height, weighs 1254 tons and is 1700 years old which means it starrted growing during the reign of the Emperor Constantine.

When in California recently we spent a day in King's Canyon National Park and camped there for a night. These are some of the Sequoia trees in the park. Sequoias are not as tall as Redwoods but are much bulkier.
