Gentiana calycosa, also known as Explorer's Gentian, is our most common alpine Gentian, blooming late in the summer in boggy areas. These were photographed at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park.

Also called Explorer's Gentian, Gentiana calycosa is very common in some areas of the Cascades. We found it in abundance both along the Mount Rainier Highway and at Paradise, but always growing in wet areas.

Late summer and autumn flowering, this is another of our beautiful wildflowers, and one that blooms when little else is left blooming. This example was photographed in Cascade Pass on a recent hike there.

Gentiana calycosa blooms late in the season in the moutains and these were still blooming, some just starting to bloom, when we hiked Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm last September.
