I find the many Lupine species of Washington difficult to identify, but believe this to be the Elegant Lupine, Lupinus lepidus var. lepidus. It was photographed along the Old Blewett Road on the east side of the Cascades where it puts on quite a show early in the summer (see insets).

When we traveled through Blewett Pass on our Washington-Oregon-California trip recently, we found the wildflowers putting on a great show as they often do there, especially the Lupines, these, we believe, the Elegant Lupines, Lupinus lepidus var. lepidus.

Among the Lupines we photographed in Blewett Pass along the Old Blewett Road, there were a number of plants with nearly white flowers, but they appear to me to be the Elegant Lupine, Lupinus lepidus var. lepidus.

These are some of the wildflowers along the Old Blewett Road, the old highway through Blewett Pass, now replaced by a faster and less scenic road. Most of the wildflowers in the photo are Buckwheats but the display is one of the reasons we love the road.

Columbia Bladderpod is a wildflower with yellow blossom that produces these hollow "bladders" as seed pods when it is finished blooming. This was photographed along the Old Blewett Road in eastern Washington.

Taken along the Old Blewett Road in Blewett Pass, this is some of the scenery there. The Old Blewett Road is former highway through the pass and part of it remains driveable. It is a favorite place of ours for wildflowers.

Photographed along the Old Blewett Road on the eastern side of the North Cascades in Blewett Pass. The area is a wonderful place for butterflies, especially when the Snowberry bushes are blooming. The Propetius Dusky Wing Skipper is Erynnis propetius and the Creeping Snowberry is Symphoricarpos hesperius. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/08/old-blewett...
