Masdevallia lamprotyria is another orchid species from Ecuador and Peru. It is highly scented and when it blooms in the spring its scent is almost overpowering. Its name refers to to its purplish-pink color. It prefers cool temperatures and high humidity.

In Explore December 23, 2011, #93. An attractive and small orchid species from Peru and Ecuador. This flower is approximately 3 cm and grows on a 10 cm plant with narrow leaves. The photo was taken as part of an attempt to take some more creative pictures of the orchids I grow, in this case with strong side-lighting. I'm reasonably satisfied with the picture, though it is cropped. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2011/12/masdevallia-lilac...

This charming orchid species is from Ecuador and Peru and is quite strongly scented especially during the day. It seems to me to have the scent of lilacs. My plant in spite of the number of flowers does not really represent how floriferous this species can be. A good size plant can be nearly covered with flowers. I should add, too, that it is not grown in the decorative pot shown here, but in a net pot in live sphagnum moss. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/03/masdevallia-lilac...

This species is from Peru and Ecuador and is slightly scented. The plant is smaller in size, four inches tall and the flowers are an inch or more, depending on how one measures. More pictures and information here. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/03/masdevallia-lilac...

This small orchid is from Peru and Ecuador. It is just coming into bloom now and blooms faithfully every year at this time. It's nicely scented, too. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/03/masdevallia-lilac...
