These are the hips of our local native rose. I haven't tried to identify the species of rose and probably should, but that requires taking a book along on one of our walks, something I haven't thought to do. The insets are both of rose hips that have been touched with frost.

Photographed in the lane near our home, these are rose hips that have been through the winter but still retain some of their color.
