I have to catch up my 10x:2014 project, a series of orchid photos on dark backgrounds. This was taken at our recent Mount Baker Orchid Society show, but it is not a flower of mine. The link below shows some of the other orchids from the show and my display as well. Pleione formosana is a terrestrial orchid that can be grown outdoors in mild climates.

Native to India, this epiphytic or lithophytic orchid grows on or near limestone cliffs in cool mountain forests. The flowers are fragrant. It was photographed at the Mount Baker Orchid Society show in Mount Vernon, Washington. We visited the show on February 27 and spent nearly four hours photographing the orchids.

An unregistered but very beautiful Paphiopedilum (slipper orchid) hybrid photographed at the Mount Baker Orchid Society show in Mount Vernon, Washington. I have so many pictures that I am going to start uploading several a day and hope I can keep up with the commenting. Please do not feel that you have to comment on all of them.

I am not going to bore everyone with endless pictures of this display. Here is one more and the last, a picture of the display case from a different angle with another one of the displays behind it. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2013/03/mount-baker-orchi...

Mount Baker Orchid Society Show

The MBOS had its annual show March 9th at Skagit Valley Gardens in Mount Vernon. it is a very small show with only six displays and three or four vendors, but is always well attended because it the first show of the year in the area. This is the display of miniature orchids I put in, as I've done for the past couple of years. The case is purpose built for shows and though it was on a table at this show it can also be used, with a set of legs, as a free-standing display. The display sets up and breaks down in a minimum of time and the plants are displayed on a faux lava cliff made of styrofoam which has areas cut out both for potted and for hanging plants, in this case a total of about 35 plants. The display won the American Orchid Society's Show Trophy as well as a Silver Certificate from the AOS. Two of the plants won trophies as well for best miniature and best pleurothallid, so it was a very good show for me. There are more pictures of the display, some close-ups of plants in the display and pictures of others' plants that were entered in the show at the link below. orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2013/03/mount-baker-orchi...
