I posted a photo of some Glacier Lilies yesterday. Here are some close-ups taken several weeks earlier near Washington Pass in the North Cascades.

One of our spring-blooming wildflowers and photographed last spring in Washington Pass in the North Cascades. Glacier Lilies, Erythronium grandiflorum, bloom just as the snow is melting and often through the snow. The snow was gone when this was photographed but it had been very wet in the pass the night before.

Glacier Lilies, Erythronium grandiflorum, bloom just as the snow melts and sometimes through the melting snow. They are one of our favorite wildflowers and we go to see them every spring in the Cascades. This one, however, was photographed in Mount Robson Park on a backpacking trip there in 2010.

Erythronium grandiflorum, the Glacier Lily blooms in the mountains at the edge of the snow melt and sometimes through the snow. They can be seen at different altitudes from April into August and are one of our favorite wildflowers. These were photographed in Washington Pass along the North Cascades Highway last spring, an area where we go every year to see them, though they can be seen elsewhere as well, notably along the Obstruction Point Road in Olympic National Park where they bloom by the millions in late July and early August. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2013/08/highway-20-through-cascades-and-eastern.html

These wonderful flowers bloom just after the snow melts. We photographed them in the area east of Washington Pass on Highway 20 where they were blooming by the thousands. Most plants have only a single flower, but there are a few plants that have two flowers.

The Glacier Lilies, Erythronium grandiflorum, are well-named since they bloom as the snow melts and often bloom through the snow. These were photographed in Washington Pass along the North Cascades Highway at the edge of the snow melt and after a very wet night.

Photographed along the North Cascades highway east of Washington Pass. When we went through the pass Thursday and photographed these plants and flowers we came through snow and bad roads and the snow was just melting off these flowers.

One of our favorite spring wildflowers, it blooms at snow-melt time. At high elevations that can be mid to late summer, as in this case. This was a protected location and there was a lot of snow left as well as a lot of mosquitoes. The bugs and a strong breeze made photography difficult and meant that we did not stay very long to admire the flowers. The botanical name for this beauty is Erythronium grandiflorum. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/08/near-greenw...
