This old tree was photographed at Big Spring Canyon Overlook in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. We hiked the short trail to the overlook and I climbed through the rocks to a rather precarious perch on the other side where I found this old tree. I was fascinated by the long, exposed root of the tree. We are traveling and are in Colorado this weekend and will not be home again until Wednesday. Posting and commenting will be sporadic until we are back home.

These are the remain of a wildflower, I'm not even sure which one, photographed at Palouse Falls State Park in eastern Washington. The photo was taken by my wife.

This is an extensive area of thermal activity on the west side of Yellowstone. The white in the picture is not snow but calcium carbonate deposits left by boiling water seeping and bubbling up from the ground, in this area, often through huge depressions filled with thick boiling mud. The trees have been killed by the thermal activity.
