Feral burros, the descendants of animals brought in by the Spanish in the 1500's, are quite common in the area of Death Valley. We saw this pair near Beatty, Nevada, on our way out of the park on April 1. We had spent the night in a rest area just inside the east entrance of the park and intended to go to an Easter service in Beatty the next day. Arriving in Beatty we found that the service was already finished and so drove on for a quiet day at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge south of Beatty and still in Nevada.

These horses are metal sculptures on a hilltop above the Wanapum Vista Overlook near the bridge where Highway 90 crosses the Columbia River. They are made of welded steel plates and are the work of Spokane artist David Govedare.

Photographed in Derby Canyon near Peshastin, Washington, earlier this spring. I do not know which of the wild roses it is of those that grow in our area, have forgotten what the plant and open flowers look like and doubt it can be identified from just a bud. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/07/derby-canyo...
