This is Calochortus macrocarpus, the Sagebrush Mariposa Lily, photographed on the prairie near our home.

It is rather ironic that several weeks ago I had driven three or four hours and done some hiking to see these Sagebrush Mariposa Lilies and then my wife and I found them growing in the fields near our home. There are a number of species of Mariposa Lilies in Washington (another similar species is shown in the insets along with another photo of this species) and they are always a delight.
