This was the beginning of the light show we watched at Bayeux Cathedral one of the evening we were in Bayeux. We had gone to the city for our evening meal, found the cathedral closed but the light show beginning and stayed for it. The light show began with colored lights inside and on the outside of the cathedral but finished with lights in the area around the cathedral that threw moving patterns on the exterior.

We visited Bayeux twice for meals and sight-seeing. Most of our time was spent in the area of the cathedral and the evening when this photo was taken we saw a light show at the cathedral. The cathedral was dedicated in 1077 though parts of it were rebuilt in the 12th century and parts were not finished until the 19th century.

After a day of traveling down from Le Tilleul and visiting the D-Day beaches we checked into our new guest house in Le Molay-Littry and went on to Bayeux. We went first to the cathedral but it was closed and so walked along the River Aure and then went for our evening meal. After a relaxed and wonderful meal we went back to the cathedral and watched the evening light show there before returning to our guest house.

These are the flags of the nations that participated in the D-Day landings June 6, 1944. They are displayed at the Merville Battery and museum in Normandy. The Merville Battery was part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall and a major fortification taken by the British on D-Day.

While in the area of the Merville Battery and museum we stopped at the Boulangerie Clatot in Merville-Franceville-Plage for coffee and pastries, a regular habit while in Normandy. We soon learned that the food and drink in Normandy was outstanding. We never had a disappointing meal and the pastries, breads, cheeses, ciders were like nothing we can get here in the States.

At the east end of Tilleuls beach (le Plage des Tilleuls) is a cave which goes through the headland, le Trou de la Sorciere, and which can be reached by ladders within the opening of the cave. This is the view to the west, taken at sunset as we explored the beach, having walked the headlands during the day.
