Washed Out Road

This was the road to the trail head to Darwin Falls in Death Valley National Park. The floods of 2022 and 2023 washed out much of the road. We hiked to the falls, but the hike is now seven miles instead of two miles.

Bird Woman Falls along the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park drops about 500 feet (152 m) down the side of Mount Oberlin. The bridge over the falls, part of the Going to the Sun Road, is visible near the center of the photo.

Macdonald Falls is along the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana. We climbed part of the way down but it was too dangerous to go any further.

Photographd along the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, this is the Wax-leaved Penstemon. My apologies for the lateness of my post and of my commenting. We've had family here and it has been very busy.

The first evening we were in Zion National Park we hiked the short Canyon Overlook trail. This was the view, with the east entrance road, the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway, winding up the canyon.

Home Away from Home

This was taken by my wife on the dirt road from Aguereberry Point in Death Valley National Park where we had watched the sunrise. This road was very rough in spots and one of the worst areas was just ahead of where the photo was taken. There was no one else around and so we felt safe stopping in the road for some photos. We would go on a few miles to the now abandoned Eureka Mine and nearby camp. The van is not only our transportation but our home away from home. My wife has made curtains for the inside and we use the deck for sleeping - we use our backpacking pads and sleeping bags and are comfortable and warm. We have our tiny backpacking stove along for meals and hot drinks.

This was taken on the Westside Road in Mount Rainier National Park and is, as far as I know, an unnamed waterfall. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/05/mount-raini...

Taken last summer on the Old Blewett Road on the east side of the Cascades, this is one of our native orchids, the Tall White Northern Bog Orchis. It is quite common but it fragrance and beautiful flwoers make it a welcome find anywhere. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2012/07/w...
