This is a small gorge along Avalanche Creek, photographed while hiking along the creek to Avalanche Lake, a beautiful alpine lake in Glacier National Park, Montana.

This was Avalanche Lake the morning I and my wife hiked there. Avalanche Lake is in Glacier National Park in Montana.

Avalanche Creek flows out of Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park and at one point flows through this narrow cut in the rocks. We hiked to the lake and took this photo along the way when we were near Glacier on a family holiday.

This was the only orchid we saw during our time in Glacier National Park, but spending time with family was more important than looking for wildflowers. This is the Slender Bog Orchid, Platanthera stricta, found and photographed near Avalanche Lake..

Avalanche Lake was one of our hiking destinations when we were in vacationing with family near Glacier National Park. We hiked there early in the morning to avoid the crowds on this easy and popular trail, and arrived before sunrise, though we stayed long enough to watch the sunrise.
