This is a view of the little lake to which my wife and I hiked a few days ago. It is in the Chuckanut Mountains, about 30 minutes south of us. The Chuckanuts are series of sandstone outcrops that loom above Puget Sound south of Bellingham. They are also a very popular spot for hiking and camping and there is a beautiful park there also, Larrabee State Park. The weather here has been lousy and spring is slow in coming. It's been cold and very rainy with little opportunity to get out and hike, but yesterday (March 17th) was a decent day, partly sunny and a little warmer, so my wife and I took the morning off and headed for the Chuckanuts, south of Bellingham, about 30 minutes from where we live and hiked the Fragrance Lake trail, a round trip of 5-6 miles including a nice walk around the lake. We hiked back along an old unused Forest Service Road and stopped for pictures at this unnamed cascade.
