From Gaylor Lakes we hiked to the site of the now-abandoned Great Sierra Silver Mine on the northeast border of Yosemite. The effort was never successful and only a small amount of silver was found. The area, however, is full of old ruined buildings and mine shafts.

Just before the town of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, we stopped to photograph this abandoned building with some of the red sandstone formations that are found in the area behind it. Ten Sleep is in eastern Wyoming near the west entrance to Ten Sleep Canyon.

Photographed on the way to the ghost town of Skidoo (nothing left but sagebrush) we photographed this old mining structure though unsure whether it was a cabin or something connected with the working of a nearby mine. This is all on the west side of the Death Valley National Park and in the mountains.

One of our children is a graduate of Queen's and until very recently has lived and worked in Belfast. This building dates to 1849 and was opened four years after the University itself was begun.
