This was taken at the Northwest Washington Fair this past summer. This young girl had just had her fancy chicken judged and was carrying him on her shoulder back to his cage. I asked if I could take their picture and she readily agreed, though I am sorry now that I don't have a way to send her the picture (I don't even know her name, nor the name of the chicken). I hope that somehow or other she sees it. For me one of the nicest things at the fair is seeing the young people and their animals and the affection they have for them.

Lost in the Tulips

While visiting the Skagit Valley last week to see the tulips and daffodils, I also visited the gardens of one of the bulb growers, Roozengaarde's. Visiting their gardens gives access to some of their fields beyond the gardens. In the fields there are signs posted asking visitors to stay on the dirt tracks between and around the fields, and not to walk down the rows. Some, however, ignore the signs and do go between the rows for pictures or send their children down the rows to take pictures of them among the tulips. I don't remember whether this little girl's mother was taking pictures, but she had run a long way down the rows and when her mother called her back came very slowly and reluctantly giving others the chance to get her picture. She was not really lost, of course. I have no idea who the girl is or where she was from but took her picture because I liked the contrast of colors and the little girl's pose. I would even hope that her mother finds this photo, though I know that is unlikely. More pictures from my visit can be found here: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2011/04/skagit-vall... .

Drinking Fountain

This photo was taken while I was sitting on a bench at Roozengaarde's Tulips during the Tulip Festival. The little girl played with the drinking fountain for quite some time completely oblivious to her surroundings and I finally took a few shots. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/05/skagit-vall...
