This was the south rim of the Chisos Basin in the Chisos Mountains of west Texas. The plants in the foreground are Havard Agaves.

These photos were all taken along the south rim of the Chisos Basin in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The south rim was our destination on a fifteen mile all-day hike following the Laguna Meadow trail to the south rim and the Pinnacles trail back.

These are the spines of the Havard Agave, photographed along the Laguna Meadow trail in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park. Everything in the desert, it seems, is covered with spines. The insets are of other plants we photographed.

A common plant in Big Bend National Park in Texas, these huge Agaves were always a delight to see. This species lives from 8 to 30 years before blooming, setting seed and dying. This specimen was photographed along the Laguna Meadow trail. The insets are of other plants we saw and photographed along that trail.
