This is the Silver Banksia, Banksia marginata, a small tree or woody shrub, native to southeastern Australia. We photographed these at Lake Ainsworth, the Tea Tree Lake.

This minuscule plant is found through much of Mexico and Central America. The plant is half an inch tall and the flowers are less than that. Seen up close, however, they are quite beautiful. This was photographed using a piece of blue velvet as a background.
