My wife agreed to stand next to this Prickly Pear to show its size. The photo was taken in the Hidden Valley area of Joshua Tree National Park where we saw a number of these impressive cacti, not a plant one would care to tangle with.

We saw a number of these impressive cacti in the Hidden Valley area of Joshua Tree National Park. They were not blooming but were impressive in size and prickliness.

These were not in bloom when we visited Joshua Tree National Park, but they were impressive nonetheless. They were photographed in Hidden Valley with Joshua Trees in the background and a small Cholla in the left foreground.
