Lone building, Newell site of Camp Tulelake

13 Oct 2015 10 13 585
All but this one building, the jail inside the camp, were demolished immediately after WWII ended. A metal roof protects it from the elements. No visitors are allowed on the site, except special tours, due to vandalism in the past. It is a silent memorial to the thousands of Japanese-Americans, many of them US citizens, who were imprisoned here. This location is a National Historical Landmark and maintained by the National Park Service. There were actually two separate camps, one near the town of Tulelake and this one at Newell. The Newell camp became the largest Japanese-American internment camp in the USA. See this site on Google Street View by clicking on Location, then on Satellite view.
