➽ Pfersee ist der Stadtteil, in dem ich lebe. Schriftlich wird der Ort zum ersten mal im Jahr 800 n. Chr. erwähnt und obwohl das Wort "See" enthalten ist, gab es bis vor ein paar Jahren keinen See hier. Auf dem heutigen Gelände Pfersees existierte schon in der Römerzeit eine Ansiedlung. Möglicherweise sogar schon in keltischer Zeit, denn der keltische Begriff "Perz", von welchem Pfersee wohl hergeleitet ist, bedeutet Burg oder Pforte. Die Römer errichteten an Stelle dieser Pforte einen Brückenkopf oder ein Kastell, das demnach auch als "Pforte" oder "Pfersee" bezeichnet wurde. Eine andere Ortsnamen-Herleitung geht auf eine Legende zurück, die erzählt, der römische Feldherr Varus, auch Verres genannt, habe sich nach seiner Niederlage gegen die Germanen im Teutoburger Wald, hier, in der Gegend von Pfersee, versteckt und sei an einem "See" erschlagen worden. Mit dem "See" könnten die Altwasser der Wertach gemeint gewesen sein. Aus Verres-See oder Varus-See könnte der Name Pfersee entstanden sein. For the first time the place is mentioned in writing in the year 800 AD and although the word "See" (lake) is included, there was no lake here until a few years. On the present site of Pfersee already existed a settlement in the Roman period. Maybe even in Celtic times, because the Celtic term "Perz", from which Pfersee probably is derived, means castle or gate. The Romans erected in place of this gate a beachhead or a fort, which was accordingly referred also as "gate" or "Pfersee". Another place-name derivation goes back to a legend that tells that the Roman general Varus, also called Verres, have been hiding in the area of Pfersee after his defeat by the Germans in the Teutoburg Forest and he should been killed at a "lake". This "lake" could have been the backwaters of the river Wertach. From "Verres See" (Verres lake) or "Varus See" (Varus lake) the name Pfersee may have originated.
