Die Insel Samos gehört zur Kirchenprovinz des Bistums Chios, welche im 14. Jahrhundert gegründet wurde und ihren Sitz in Chiosstadt hat. Zu ihr gehören die ostägäischen Inseln Chios, Mytilini, Samos, Ikaria und die Insel Limnos. Die jetzt einzige katholische Kirche der Insel Samos an der Hafenpromenade ist der Heiligen Maria geweiht und es werden immer noch Gottesdienste - allerdings nur in der Sommerzeit - hier abgehalten. Die relativ große und von innen auch einstmals sehr schöne Kirche hätte dringend eine Renovierung nötig (PiPs) . Der heutige Kirchenraum ist stark verkleinert und ausreichend für die nicht mehr so zahlreichen Besucher. The island of Samos is part of the ecclesiastical province of the Diocese of Chios, which was founded in the 14th century and has its seat in Chios Town. It includes the East Aegean islands Chios, Mytilini, Samos, Ikaria and the island of Limnos. The today only Catholic church on the island of Samos on the harbor promenade is dedicated to St. Mary and services are still held here - but only in the summertime. The relatively large and from the inside once very beautiful church would urgently need a renovation (PiPs) . It doesn't work in English but I try to explain: The sewing machine is the symbol of a tailor, the other sign of a hairdresser and means "hair cutter"! In German "tailor" and "cutter" is one word: "Schneider"! So we have a "hair tailor", or so! ;-D
