A day in the hills

17 Aug 2023 17 13 141
Another look at ‘Pared-y-Cefn-hir’ from the Gregennen Lakes. I t is quite amazing what a few yards make to a view point. We can see here the path with some hikers on their way to the top. Which I believe has some breath-taking views –unfortunately not for me today though, as the call of the coast and our holiday home beckons. See PiP for the same hill captured on this little trip just up the road, and another showing the same hill in very different weather on our last trip here in June 2012 (adjacent picture). Misty Pared-y-Cefn-hir’

Taken during a Welsh tour in 2012. On this day the mist swirled and this hill came and disappeared from view.

HWW ~ Welsh grazing sheep

Green fields and dry-stone walls make this a very British scene as the sheep graze and observe a stranger on this high hill. Taken near Dolgelleu in mid Wales. HWW, have a great day.

Pared-y-Cefn-hir

Having just arrived at Lake Cregennen we are first greeted by this majestic peak. At 383m it looks a difficult trek to the top so we did not try it. However along with these farm buildings it makes for a fine backdrop. To my right are the lakes themselves with views towards Cadair Idris. PiP. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

Majestic Barmouth

01 Aug 2023 16 16 193
Just a few yards away from my previous photo one can get views like this. We are looking down to the south edge of the town. It mainly faces the sea on the other side of the rock face we see here. A very long hike if we would have wanted to walk down from this viewpoint. Of course the star of this photo is Barmouth’s historic railway viaduct along with its now defunct swinging bridge. The distant hills belong to the Llŷn Peninsula and the Island to the left is Bardsley Island. ‘Barmouth's location on the west coast of North Wales and lying between a mountain range and the sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach is arguably one of the most beautiful locations in Wales. It rests just within the south west corner of Snowdonia National Park and is steeped in a history rich with connections to the shipping and slate industries.’ More info: www.barmouth.org.uk Enjoy full screen.

A Cregennan Lake vista

A summer five day visit to this southern end of the Snowdonia National Park begins with a beautiful valley that we last visited in 2012. We are here now near the bigger of the two high llynnau Cregennen lakes looking east towards Cadair Idris. A little cool for a picnic today but a hot coffee might be in order as we admire the views. Cadair Idris is one of Wales’s favourite mountains at 893m. Another fine lake (Llyn Cadir) can be spied from the top of there, but not for us on this trip. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.
