Castleshaw outlook

A look over a small pond over to the dam wall of Castleshaw lower reservoir. Only a 15 minute car ride from my home and a very pleasant walk up and around that reservoir when it is dry and warm as it was when I took this. Enjoy the day

A look at one of our local reservoirs. This is Castleshaw, fabled as once being an area where a Roman fort was built. A five photo stitch. Enjoy full screen

Castleshaw and its reservoirs

A panoramic stitch of four photos showing the two reservoirs here (Upper and Lower Castleshaw). One of our favourite walks follows the valley from left to right and over the far end dam wall before retracing our path back. It is always somewhat muddy and damp but quite beautiful too. “Castleshaw Roman fort was a castellum in the Roman province of Britannia. Although there is no evidence to substantiate the claim, it has been suggested that Castleshaw Roman fort is the site of Rigodunum, a Brigantian settlement.” Best full screen and zoomed. Not sure how Ipernity has calculated this at 15.8mm as the 4 shots were 38mm each.

Some walls of Castleshaw Reservoir

This area has real history. The Romans, whist occupying England had a fort just right of this scene. Here we see not a Roman fort but a diversion outlet for one of the feeder streams running from the higher Saddleworth Moors surrounding us here. I think too that the house looking building is in fact a small pump-house but I might be wrong. Our path in facts goes across the top of the dam wall just to the right of where I stand. Have a good day.

An autumn seat at Delph

A pond that I have photographed a few times before, usually with the ducks and geese appearing in search of a feed. Alongside side us here the path leads us up to a nice pair of reservoirs in the far distance. It does get very boggy in this season though but the warm November morning sun makes this an attractive scene for me. Have a great week.
