Cogra Moss, West Lakes.

After almost six months of virtual isolation within Covid 19 lock-down conditions we finally manage to escape back to the country. A week here will feel like a week of heaven but care must still be taken in our isolated holiday cottage. At least I will be able to share that trip with you here on Ipernity now that we are back home. - We are in what is commonly called the West Lakes. Our holiday cottage for a week is only minutes away from here and at this moment we are taking a small hike revisiting this spot after some years of absence. Our path continues traversing down the hill to the left to join the wider trail seen below. In the far distance you might just make out the edge of the Solway Firth (Irish Sea). Above us we can hear but not see the plaintive call of a local osprey. "Cogra Moss is a beautiful enclosed forest surrounding a shallow reservoir to the east of the village of Lamplugh on the western edge of the English Lake District. It was created by the damming of Rakegill Beck in about 1880, though its function as a water supply ceased in 1975." Enjoy full screen

Cogra Moss and its heather

A windy day stirs up this lake that can often be mirror-like but as I take this I can hear the ripple of its small waves against the shore. I can also smell the sweet almost honey-like heather bushes at my feet. A few yards to my right a fisherman tries his luck at fly-fishing as this is now a favourite spot for such a sport. In fact if you look carefully you can just see another fisherman in the water to the left of the small tree-covered Island centre of picture. The PiP shows the way down to here. - See the previous photo for more info about the moss. Enjoy large.

Spiral Fence

A first holiday for many months brings me to the English Lake District. Here at Cogra Moss near Ennerdale Water I spot this twisty-turny fence reminding me a little of a cork-screw. All around me, beauty and isolation –what more can we ask for in these strange times. HFF. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
