HWW ~ Yockenthwaite

A view from ‘Top farm’ in the tiny hamlet of Yockenthwaite in the Yorkshire Dales. This is still part of the ‘Dales Way’ and of course we are looking at the River Wharfe. This is actually our half way turning point on the walk that started further downstream at Hubberholme. Another big lens cap lost around here entailing a 30 minute fruitless search, ah well, the trials and tribulations of photography and hiking.
Enjoy the week.

A walk in the Wharfe valley near the village of Hubberhome is certain to be heaven for any wall or barn collector. Enjoy this scene with me.
HWW, enjoy the day.

A barn that I suspect is photographed a lot. We are here on the Dales Way near Hubberholme again and this is but one of many barns around here.

Take your pick for fences, walls and benches !
As we finish our hike around here, I cannot go without taking a snap of this most wonderful little church.
“The church building is mainly 12th century built upon the site of a forest chapel. It was extended to the north in the 16th century. Inside, can be found a beautiful wooden Rood Loft which survived Elizabeth I's edict to destroy all such objects.” www.upperwharfedalechurches.org/hubberholme.html

We are in the Hubberholme valley just a mile or so west from the village and come across the gate barring our path. Fortunately the bit of string fixing the gate to the wall is soon undone to let us proceed. The River Wharfe runs on our right side here. The PiP shows the same valley.

A walk in a valley that we have not seen for many years. Its quite wild looking but most of it is surrounded by pastoral fields. To our left just some 30 metres or so is one of our favourite rivers: The River Wharfe. Our path goes on now for another 2-3km before turning back well above this spot and beyond. Always nice to see the wild summer flowers. The characteristic dead tree also giving our eyes something to dwell on.
Hubberholme is an old village in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England, at the point where Langstrothdale meets Wharfedale. It is quite secluded and the nearest village is Buckden.
Have a good weekend.
