Lake Lugano

26 Nov 2022 29 27 233
Its nice sometimes to be reminded of past pleasant trips. Here we are at Lake Lugano in Switzerland, September 2013 during our Italian Lakes holiday. This high fountain in the lake itself is at the town of Lugano. It is one of many beautiful fountains on this lake. The south west of the lake forms the border with Italy. Enjoy

Morning town ride

29 Apr 2022 43 31 320
A trip to the SVR (Severn Valley Railway) gives us a chance to see the GWR 1450 at Bridgenorth. A Collett class 0-4-2T designed to work on small branch lines and first started service at Oxford in 1935. After 14,000 miles it has now been sent for its boiler overhaul. Besides this most charming engine we have the luxuriant fence and lamp which are all in keeping. Enjoy full size! HFF, enjoy the weekend.

Trees on the horizon

Spring at Pensax in Worcester can be a magical place. There is a lot of agriculture here as can be seen with these fields. The sky clouds were a sheer bonus. Another oldie of 2013 Enjoy full screen.

Take your seats – we are off…

All aboard this vintage steam train carriage for our trip from Bridgnorth to Bewdley on the SVR (Severn Valley Railway). I know –it’s not exactly a row of benches but it would have been, some years earlier. Enjoy full size and enjoy your week in safety.

A rural Autumn

31 Oct 2021 28 21 269
The last of my Autumnal photos of yesteryear now, shows another local scene. Taken on a very cold morning we are not far from water here hence the presence of more mist than normal. The horses are needing some protection against the cold in this weather and they take little notice of the Canada Geese that seem to be on the increase around here. Enjoy full screen and Keep safe. Rest-up in Greenfield.

28 Oct 2021 28 31 287
Autumn, at just a short ride from my home can be most rewarding, for here at the Huddersfield canal we see some gorgeous Autumnal lighting giving the whole scene a look of the old masters. The narrow-boat takes a rest before a possible trip towards the Ashton Basin and two other canal systems. If it went up towards the hills here, it would shortly reach Diggle and the famous Standedge Tunnel under the moors to Marsden in Yorkshire. Another from my Panoramio collection. Enjoy full screen. ps Greenfield is the name of the big village here.

A walk around Dovestones

22 Feb 2021 49 51 351
Only metres away from the very lone tree that started my photography hobby on its way, here we are on the higher round walk around this now famous reservoir. This scene from 2013 has altered a little because the stand of high pine trees to the left of the fence has been largely replaced by more native deciduous trees. The bench, like many around here has been placed as a memorial for someone. Enjoy full screen. HBM to all, have a great week.

Golden Autumn

Memories of our golden autumns in a classic style for you here today. Taken just a few short miles away from my home on an October morning in 2013. Relax, sit back and enjoy. (in full screen)

Beer, Devon

05 Mar 2020 25 19 293
We've been to Devon a few times during our lives and so when I came across this the other day I thought it might be worth an airing again. It was originally in my Panoramio account. Beer, Devon Aug 2013 'Once a fishing village, Beer later made its name as the source of Beer Stone, which provided the material for many of Britain's most famous buildings. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and the manor of Beer was once owned by Catherine Parr, last wife of Henry VIII. It later became infamous as a haven for smugglers. - The first thing to clear up is the origin of the name; it has nothing to do with an alcoholic drink, but comes from the Saxon word 'bearu' for 'grove', a reference to the woodland once grew thick around this area of the coast. Beer grew up around a sheltered bay which made fishing easier than at other places along the Jurassic Coast. But fishermen were not the only ones to make use of Beer; smugglers also appreciated the relatively easy anchorage and used caves in the cliffs to store contraband goods. There is no natural harbour at Beer so boats had to be winched up onto the shingle. This used to be done manually with a capstan on the shore which required 20 men to operate. Now electrically driven winches make light work of the task!' (www.britainexpress.com) Enjoy, full screen.

The Storks of Silves.

Silves in Portugal is the setting for this pair of Storks, famously returning as a pair, year after year to rebuild their nest and raise young. Hope you enjoy this silhouette.
