HBM~ The enchanted seat

30 Sep 2024 18 17 140
One from a walk around Digley reservoir not too far from my home in Oldham. It started off with a sunny bright morning but on our way back the clouds opened and we had heavy rain but soon it cleared again and introduced this rainbow. A contender perhaps for this Octobers CWP competition of Rainbows that starts tomorrow. www.ipernity.com/group/1071739/discuss/199558 www.ipernity.com/group/1071739/doc HBM, enjoy the week.

Rainbow walkers!

A walk on the beach at Minehead, especially with a child or dog must always be a pleasant experience. Today the walkers have a special treat with this lovely rainbow. Photographed from the top edge of the promenade wall and path. Enjoy full size.

End of the light

A super rainbow in Aberfoye, Scotland allows me to find the end spot for the pot of gold. Enjoy full screen.

Rainbow over Loch Linnhe

Here we see Loch Linnhe from the small village of Onich just some miles below Fort William with an approaching storm. In the distance can be seen the white lighthouse at Corren.

Out with the trap

11 Jan 2023 22 24 226
Back in Digley Reservoir country and as we see another rainbow we also come across this horse and trap. Two, local farmers it seems giving the horse some exercise and grandfather an outing. They seemed to have come across something interesting here? ps, I am reminded that this is a mule, not a horse! Enjoy the day

Issues Road wall and rainbow

Another capture from the Holm and Digley reservoir area. A very nice but wild farm lane here and quite wet too after very recent heavy rains. We are still some distance from our car but we are treated to a grand double rainbow as can be seen here. The PiP shows the same lane taken back in 2019 from the opposite side. Enjoy full screen and All the Very Best for the New Year.

Bawden Rocks from St Agnes Head

27 Jan 2022 15 12 201
As rainfall comes in over the sea we see rainbows come and go in the distance. This is actually looking over Trevaunace Cove towards Cligga Head. Bawden Rocks are sometimes called Man and His Man! Moments after taking this photo I took the preceding photo on here looking in the opposite direction. Enjoy full screen.

Rainbow at Higher Swineshaw reservoir

10 Nov 2021 37 31 282
Another chance here to see the exact same rainbow as I posted with a fence just a few days back. (see PiP) This time we see it with a wall instead of the wooden gated fence and unlike the other, this shows both ends too. Another two-photo stitch with unfortunately the left side being not as sharp as the right but I hope you will forgive me for posting it in despite of that. Again a few rain drops highlighted as noise near the bow itself from the bright light behind me. Enjoy full screen. Happy Wednesday Wall

Rainbow at Brushes

05 Nov 2021 45 56 371
A recent 'breath of fresh air' walk took us to a local set of reservoirs in the search for new autumn tree colours. However we were not in luck for such light on the trees. At almost the highest point a look to our right showed us the makings of a beautiful rainbow with the blackest sky imaginable. Whilst hiding from the coming onslaught of rain behind a wall, I ran off a few quick snaps being careful not to get my lens wet. Here is the result of two of the photos melded for this panoramic capture. Notice here what I had at first thought of, as a very dirty photo of noise/dirt spots on the lens or sensor but ‘no’ the lens was clean and dry, as was my sensor. So what are those white spots and streaks over the colours of the bow itself? In fact, it seems that the bright sun to my back as I took these into the black skies, lit up the fast rain droplets and that is that what we are seeing. Strangely, moments after taking these, the rainbow, rain and dark skies reverted to beautiful blue skies again (until we reached the golden trees then it went dull - of course.) Enjoy full size. Have a great weekend. Herb

Atlantic rainbow seat

11 Oct 2021 36 50 289
As the wind and rain drives like a fast train towards me, the bright sun here just moments ago lights up the sky and sea with rainbows. The spot is a high headland above the Cornish cove of Chapel Porth. HBM. Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

‘E’- marks the spot

30 Jul 2021 45 63 347
A double rainbow shows us where the treasures are hidden, just near the fence post with the letter ‘E’. This was taken as part of a series, in pouring rain, a few hundred metres from our holiday cottage in Aberfoyle, Scotland. The clump of woods on the right side also highlights the tree of which my earlier sprint with the rainbow arch was taken too. (PiP) HFF, have a great weekend.

Our arrival here in Rossbeigh is heralded by a massive rainstorm which has its compensations as can be seen.

A Yorkshire 'Double Top!'

29 Mar 2017 6 3 393
As the last heavy rainfall passes by, the next is only seconds away. It is always nice to see colours like this which also enhance the overall lighting of the scene. Taken near the tiny village of Long Preston in the Yorkshire Dales. Nb In Yorkshire, 'Double Top' is a term used in the pub game of darts meaning 'double twenty'. It sits at the very centre top position of the dart-board circle. During the game, one would cry out "double top" meaning they were going to try to get a dart in the 'double twenty' slot.

Rule Britannia!

Surely proof that God smiles on Britain!!!!....If only..... Sorry about this very dated, politically incorrect title. We British are the first to mock ourselves you know. Joking apart, this is a rather nice chance capture of a wonderful rainbow over the town-hall with its Union flag flying high, of Skipton, in the Yorkshire Dales. Said to be the Gateway to the Dales! Enjoy

Over the Rainbow

A super rainbow here in Aberfoye, captured at this place after a sprint in the pouring rain. In fact this was here for some time and displayed a stunning double at times too. The big central tree provides a nice anchor in my opinion. As is often the case with such conditions, a blast of super sunlight provided the perfect foreground colours. Enjoy full screen.
