After showing on here the Gatehouse (PiP) we now see the heart of this fine ruined Abbey
“The impressive ruins of Easby Abbey lie in picturesque surroundings by the River Swale in North Yorkshire. Easby is one of the best preserved monasteries of the Premonstratensian 'white canons', with the magnificent refectory, gatehouse and canons' dormitory remaining. The parish church within the precinct, which is still in use, contains rare 13th century wall paintings.
Founded in 1152, Easby Abbey was suppressed in 1536 and within two years most of its buildings had been stripped and demolished. The ruins later became a favourite subject for artists, including JMW Turner.” www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/easby-abbey

A look at this this impressive small building which stands a short distance away from the far larger ruins of the Abbey itself. The Abbey founded in 1152, is near the Yorkshire town of Richmond.

Another view of Richmond Castle, this time form the ‘cockpit’ garden. A fine stroll around here reveals many kinds of flowers and plants. The PiP shows a close-up of the Globethistle (Echinops) of which you see, there are many.

Two views of this impressive ruined castle here. Both taken from the inner central space that would have been a hive of activity in the day.
“Towering above the river Swale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Richmond Castle has been an imposing sight since its foundation in the 1070s. The castle is one of the finest and most complete 11th-century fortresses in the country.” (English Heritage.org)

A nice curve for me here and as per usual I always like to include a frame of some sort. The flying flag is the ‘English Heritage’ emblem. They look after such historical buildings and sites. More about the castle later when I share some closer looks.
This is in fact a phone photo even though I took a few with my DSLR. The quality seemed OK and the P.O.V on this was slightly better than my Nikon ones. I never thought I would see the day when a phone photo competed against my Nikon shots. Maybe, because I am snapping with my phone, I am not taking as much care with the ‘real’ camera :)

The River Swale at Richmond

Richmond in Yorkshire is an impressive historical market town with its castle and location. Here, running well below the castle walls is the equally impressive River Swale. This is the location for many family outings as parts of the river above the falls are quite safe and shallow and so many picnics had here.

The inhabitants of Richmond Castle in Yorkshire had a very pleasant garden walk within the castle grounds. Here we are just inside the castle walls and below the main tower. There are fine views from the seat and a great view of the River Swale far below just over the wall on the left.
HBM, enjoy the week.
