A mood of Wastwater

16 Mar 2021 36 24 284
After showing you one of my latest views from this side of Wastwater yesterday, I thought I would also share this older monochrome version taken in June 2015. What a difference weather, lens and treatment makes here. I know we cannot but compare the two scenes; our preference is very personal indeed! Enjoy full screen

Whitby West pier explored.

19 Jan 2021 21 22 228
When one walks to the end of this oak pier, we find there is a ladder going underneath to an almost secret walkway, a spot inhabited by fishermen in bad weather. Here we see a view from there in monochrome, befitting this historic town. The tower seen here is the West Pier lighthouse, built in 1831 and occasionally opened to the public. Two Pips of alternate views included. Full screen essential.

Whitby and the River Esk

08 Dec 2020 29 33 357
Whitby, a seaside, fishing town on the North Yorkshire coast. Made famous by its hilltop Abbey and the towns connections to Bram Stoker's Dracula. However the fact that Captain Cook once lived here is perhaps of more importance. This monochromatic view helps to remind us of another of its famous inhabitants, the photographer: Frank Meadow Sutcliffe. www.sutcliffe-gallery.co.uk/gallery.html Full size screen essential

The old boat winch

22 Oct 2020 25 21 377
Seen overlooking the beach at Runswick Bay. Some years back there used to be a lot more fishing boats around here, now there are mainly memories and a few pleasure boats but this old winch survives to pull the odd boat up out of the water as seen. Enjoy full screen.

The Wonders of Mallorca: Serra de Tramuntana

11 Aug 2020 31 15 336
This mountain range described as the northern backbone of Mallorca runs from the southwest to the northeast. We see here, of course the Mediterranean sea looking north to the Spanish mainland and Barcelona some 180km away and behind to the right is Puig Major the highest mountain of this area. Our road continues ahead along this coast now toward the famous Cap de Formentor lighthouse and then on to Pollença. Enjoy this monochrome rendition in full screen.

Ahoy there.

Just at the side of the Göta Kanal in Gothenburg, Sweden lies this memorial to the age of sail, albeit on land. In an case, making for an attractive photo in this contre-jour misty setting. Enjoy

Visions of Park Bridge: A fenced heritage

05 Jun 2020 49 80 495
HFF wishes from the Park Bridge Country Park. We are just approaching the steep rocky valley, outlined in the series of photos before this. These fences stop people and animals venturing into the two small area’s which are in fact depressions in the ground with now covered deep holes, possibly caused by mining tunnel collapses as this was coal mining country. This at one time would have been a busy place but now it’s generally quite lonely. The trees are a new addition. HFF, enjoy your weekend

A corner of Chester

Chester, UK, the old Roman fortified town has many charms. Here is just one of them.

Loreley

21 Sep 2015 2 378
The siren, Loreley (Lorelei), said to lure sailors on the very narrowest section of the Rhein onto the rocks is seen here sitting at the end of the spit of land on this part of the river called The Loreley. A rather seductive view here but modesty forbade me to shoot from other angles :) Enjoy

Old fort lighthouse, Corfu

13 Jul 2015 2 371
Atop the old fortress in Corfu Town stands this almost forlorn lighthouse overlooking the sea on three sides and the old town on the other. Its age eludes me as I cannot find any reference to that. This photo amazingly misses out the throngs of tourist who have, like me, climbed the heights to get here.
