Light up the way.

A beautiful winter look at my very local linear park. This used to be the railway track route from Oldham to Delph, many years back known as the Delph Donkey line. Opened in 1849 by the LNWR (London & North Western railway) connecting my local town of Oldham to the main Huddersfield to Manchester line. A mixture of steam engines ran on here including the famous Fowler 7F’s and Austerity 2-8-0’s. It was closed in 1963 and turned into a cycle & walkway in 1964. As you can see, it can be a real beauty. Enjoy full screen.

Deia - As we hike back up the steep path to the top of the hill overlooking the peninsula of Sa Foradada, a quick look to our side reveals these most attractive trees. How could I not try to do my best with them?

Memories of Tuscany: Boulevard of Maritime Pines

18 Jul 2020 25 31 328
Enjoy a short stretch here of this wonderful avenue of pines. I originally believed this to be the famous Viale dei Cipressi (Boulevard of Cypresses) near Bolgheri as we were quite close to that. I did originally title this the Boulevard of Cypresses. Thanks to our fellow Ipernity friend Annalia S. (below) for kindly pointed out my error. As usual, best viewed in full screen.

Cathedral of trees.

A re-post of the original November 7, 2014 up-load. - I thought this well worth re-looking at, as it was always one of my favourites on here. It also demonstrates to some tune, the tunnel that we are all going through with the Pandemic and to a lesser degree Ipernity. Hopefully, all will be restored to normal soon. In the meantime - just sit back, relax and enjoy! ~This very pleasant drive is actually called Station Road looking towards the Fox & Hounds Inn near the village of Lydford in Devon. Walking or indeed driving along here is almost awe-inspiring in this dappled light. I tried a few evenings to get this kind of lighting just right and I am afraid I never got that quite perfect. The mind boggles what it must be like with heavy snow, hoar-frost or that wonderful Autumnal gold. Enjoy! ~ Wishing you all a Happy New and safe Year

Ennerdale in Autumn

The Samaria Gorge, Crete

21 Oct 2019 20 22 293
The entrance of the 18km long Samaria Gorge taken from Xyloskalo on the Omalos plateau. In the distance you can see the high peaks of the White Mountains. The plateau is particularly beautiful in the winter, when it is frequently covered by snow. Just out of shot, a slow line of back-packers make there way down the torturous path to start there long hike which is very hot and dry without any refreshment stops, each showing a special pass to guarding wardens. In the past, the plateau of Omalos was the shelter of the locals and the base of rebels during the two and a half centuries of the Turkish occupation, but also during all other wars against invaders.
