A view from Jenny Brown's Point

A day out at the North West area of Siverdale gives us sights like this. We are walking south following the sandy Morcambe Bay and are at this moment at 'Jack Scout' looking towards the same coast over Warton Sands to the town of Carnforth. Here like much of this bay, the sands are treacherous with fast rising tides and areas of quicksand. A great place for wildlife though and some interesting trees.

Carnforth Railway Station

The market town of Carnforth in Lancashire is the setting of these photos aimed mainly at its old railway station. Sitting on the ‘West Coast’ railway line, it has always been busy, especially with its close proximity to the Lancaster canal and A6/M6 roads. The town was well known for being a ‘railway town in the 19th century as being at the junction of three major railways. The station was made famous by it being the setting for the 1945 ‘Brief Encounter’ film, refreshment room set (top centre). Alongside this station on the old wagon works and sidings used to be a very big train museum called ‘Steamtown’ that ran from 1967, sadly closed to the public in 1987 but is now run as the ‘West Coast Railway Company’ which operate heritage steam and diesel trains across the UK railway network. Unfortunately there is no public entrance allowed for me to explore there.
The collage photos are self explanatory but the yellow train coming in, is an Avanti West Coast, Pendolino class 390 from Glasgow to London.

Footbridge over the River Keer

We are approaching the end of our round walk here on the River Keer from and to Carnforth. A rather nice and quite old wooden footbridge that would lead us back onto the seaward side of the river but that was not for us today. See PiP for top view.

A walk over Bolton-le-Sands

After leaving the railway town of Carnforth we walk along the canal and end up at 'Bay View' before we walk over the slightly dangerous tidal marshlands of Morcambe Bay to the River Keer estuary. Lots of sheep paths on here trying to divert us of the main footpaths but we stick to the edges and reach our goal of the river itself. The sheep know all the safe paths here and we keep an eye on them so we are in no real danger, especially as high tide is still many hours away.
Across the water we are looking towards Grange-over-Sands with the English Lake district in the far background.
Enjoy this and the PiP at full screen.
Birds on the wing

This is the Keer Channel on Morcambe Bay, just south of Carnforth. I heard this flight of birds before I saw them. As to what they are, they were moving so fast that even my fast shutter speed fails to make them out that good. My research makes me think they might be Golden plover (Pluvialis apricaria) that are known to visit this area. Maybe somebody may know better.

A view to the Yorkshire Dales

This 180°, eight photo stitch panorama looking NE taken from just north of Carnfoth, shows the hills and fells of our Yorkshire Dales. We are seeing much here including the Howgills, Barbon Fell and Ingleborough centre stage. A little to the left is the borders of our Lake District and the pleasant tourist village of Kirby Lonsdale hiding beyond the foreground hills.

Away from it all

Sometimes we just want to escape the world. Get away from this dreadful Pandemic, away from unnatural weather cycles, politics, away from football even, so it was good for me to see a very rare night of stars. I am here in North Lancashire only a few metres from our rented holiday cottage at 30 minutes past midnight looking south east with the lights of Kirby Lonsdale on the horizon. Its still quite light even though there is almost no moon at all. I was looking for the Milky Way and there is just a hint right of centre here with the other two stripes being just wispy clouds. For me a moment of peace and isolation -for a change. ~ A panorama of six portrait wide angle shots here.
Enjoy too -in full screen.
