On this day, March 24, 1999, 23 years ago, without the approval of the UN Security Council, NATO launched 78-day air strikes on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia), killing between 1,200 and 2,500 people, including 79 children. The bombing destroyed and damaged 25,000 residential buildings, disabled 470 kilometers of roads and 595 kilometers of railways. 14 airports, 19 hospitals, 20 health centers, 18 kindergartens, 69 schools, 176 cultural monuments and 44 bridges were damaged, while 38 were destroyed. NATO launched 1,300 cruise missiles, delivered 37,000 "cluster bombs" and used banned depleted uranium munitions. 1,150 fighter jets launched nearly 420,000 missiles with a total mass of 22,000 tons. The action was cynically called the "Angel of Mercy", and the civilian casualties were "collateral damage":

Skadarlija is a bohemian quarter in the center of Belgrade (Skadarska ulica). Every day about 20,000 people visit Skadarlija. Due to the proximity of the National Theater, there were many actors who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Other actors, poets, writers, painters came to act with actors.Because of this, many taverns, some of the oldest in Belgrade, were nicknamed in Skadarlija. It was here that dawn was welcomed by artists who entered the history of Serbian culture. HBM!

Sveti Vasilije Ostroški, (28 December 1610 – 1671) was a Serbian Orthodox bishop of Zahumlje who is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church. After his death in 1671 he was buried at the Ostrog Monastery he had founded in Montenegro, and his tomb in a cave-church soon became a site of pilgrimage for Christians (both Orthodox and Roman Catholic) and Muslims drawn by reports of miracles occurring through the intercession of the saint. The Monastery of Ostrog is now one of the major pilgrimage sites in the Balkans, and large numbers of pilgrims gather particularly at Pentecost. St. Basil of Ostrog is commemorated in the Serbian orthodox liturgical calendar on April 29 (May 12 in the Gregorian Calendar). HFF!
