Drosera Menziesii: Flower enjoy a very rare view

14 Aug 2023 13 15 221
The small group I have that are real wild plants and they get treated the very same as the plants out in the wild. This is a flower very few would ever see if ever as they are way out in the bush living on the wild rocks of the area. In the 5 years I have had this group this is the very first time its flowered. So what is different this has been a very wet less sunny winter than we have had for a very long time. flowers only last open for a "Day" bottom one I noted open on a day i went to work but was closed by the time I got home.hidden behind the left top petal is another slowly coming out. So three flowers. Sorry Ipernity only shows one PIP on the photos but you can open below and worth the read of this unique group of Natural bonsai's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drosera_menziesii my flowers are 100% not pink but pure white. summer cloths they all but die in the heat of summer but sleep till the winter rains wake them up. This shows the growth this winter

A Green thumbs paradise.

Waking Up:- Borya Constricta Churchill

11 Apr 2022 4 3 170
After the very long hot summer we have had good solid soaking rain in our area not just in the hills and spits like we have had for a few months. The plant is waking up after its long summer sleep as you can see the leaves forming rosettes again not closed tightly. With a bit more rain this should turn green if the plant does not get enough water it will simply hibernate some more.

After a long dry spell of summer for the second time the plants have woken up and start growing. As we have more rain coming I will add these to the bonsai stands to get watered regularly. The only thing I have done to these I have removed the fallen leaves from the plants this season.

After a long dry spell of summer for the second time the plants have woken up and start growing. As we have more rain coming I will add these to the bonsai stands to get watered regularly. The only thing I have done to these I have removed the fallen leaves from the plants this season that cover over the moss below. The plants have gone from closed up straw colour to an opened up rosette of orange then starts to go to green. Amazing small plants from the Wilds of WA.

This Is the plant after the summer dry and no water at all. Today has been our first day of rain the whole day so I have put it out in the rain to wake up from the Summer Sleep. PIP one shows the winter colour. PIP 2 shows last years summer colour even on the rocks it is the same as my colour this year. gardentravelhub.com/bushwalk-from-sullivan-rock-to-mt-cooke this will be interesting to see it change the moss has already started to go green after the days rain and the leave more orange colour. PIP 3 show the plant after two weeks water.

One of natures true native Bonsai's. This is all over the huge granite outcrops i take photos on. at the moment the plant is turning green and the moss also its winter its raining and the plant comes to life. in summer its a bright orange "Autumn like" in hibernation till the rains come next winter. lives just as you see it in that much or less soil as this has as it straight off the rock onto this Granite plate. no fertiliser on added water this plant will live apart from the rest like it was living on the rock to live the same seasons. the plant is no more than 40mm high has white flowers in winter..... this is a big learning curve. look at the first two photos. As an Astro photographer i am always on the look out for the perfect spot. Rocks Southerly aspect no city light pollution, no body going to crowd you out. only problem the shot is taken with a 600mm lens only way to get here is by helicopter no boat access with the high swell and smooth sides. {:o(((
