L'origine dell'Abbazia risale ai secoli VI-VII, quando sorse un insediamento benedettino su quella che era l'Insula Pomposia, un'isola boscosa circondata da due rami del fiume e protetta dal mare. Vicino all'abbazia di Pomposa -Near the Pomposa Abbey

La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista è un edificio religioso situato a Gubbio. Qui sono state girate le prime stagioni di Don Matteo. La chiesa fu costruita fra il XIII e il XIV secolo, con ogni probabilità sul sito occupato in precedenza dal primitivo Duomo di San Mariano. La chiesa ha una facciata prettamente gotica, mentre il campanile è romanico. L'interno è costituito da una singola navata con abside quadrata, mentre il tetto è sostenuto da archi in pietra su colonne binate. Molti degli affreschi originari sono andati perduti; rimangono solo alcuni frammenti di una Santa Caterina d'Alessandria e di uno Sposalizio mistico di Santa Caterina. ------------------------------------- The church of San Giovanni Battista is a religious building located in Gubbio.The first seasons of Don Matteo were filmed here. La Cattedrale di Matera (1230/1270) sorge su un terrapieno artificiale, nell’area della Civita, così da sovrastare la città, imponendosi come punto di riferimento per il borgo e per chi la ammira. Dedicata alla Madonna della Bruna e a Sant’Eustachio, Santi Patroni, è decorata da elementi architettonici che ne fanno uno degli esempi più interessanti dello stile romanico pugliese. Al di sopra del portale principale, in una nicchia, si fa notare la statua della Madonna della Bruna, mentre ai lati, oltre a quelle di San Pietro, a destra, e San Paolo, a sinistra, si può ammirare la statua di Sant’Eustachio. Elemento di gran rilievo è poi il rosone romanico che ripropone il tema della ruota della fortuna e singolare è anche il campanile a base quadrata. Spostandosi sul prospetto laterale l’attenzione cade sulle due porte riccamente decorate: una detta “porta di piazza”, anticipata da una scalinata, l’altra nota come “porta dei leoni”, per la presenza delle due statue poste ai lati che raffigurano, appunto, due leoni. Entrando nella Cattedrale appare evidente il contrasto con lo stile esterno. Nulla è rimasto allo stato originario, eccetto pochi importanti affreschi ed i bei capitelli medioevali figurati delle 10 colonne, molto lavorati e l’uno differente dall’altro; il resto è stato completamente alterato nel corso dei secoli. Entering the Cathedral, the contrast with the external style is evident. Nothing has remained in its original state, except for a few important frescoes and the beautiful medieval capitals of the 10 columns, very worked and different from each other, the rest has been completely altered over the centuries That's why I don't have any inside pictures.
