Die Stadt Zadar [ˈzadar] (italienisch Zara; lateinisch Iader oder Iadera ‚Jadera‘) liegt im Süden Kroatiens in Norddalmatien. Zadar ist eine Hafenstadt und ein Seebad an der Adria Zadar war schon in der illyrischen Zeit eine Siedlung. In römischen Quellen wird es als Iader (Iadera), bei Konstantinos Porphyrogennetos im 10.
