Das Kap Komorin (engl.: Cape Comorin) ist der südlichste Punkt des indischen Subkontinents. Die auf 8° 4' nördlicher Breite und 77° 35' östlicher Länge gelegene, felsige Landspitze im Bundesstaat Tamil Nadu ist ein Ausläufer der Westghats. Zwei Ausläufer des Indischen Ozeans, das Arabische Meer und der Golf von Bengalen, treffen dort zusammen. Am Kap Komorin befindet sich die 20.000-Einwohner-Stadt Kanyakumari, die wegen ihrer Lage an der Südspitze Indiens ein bedeutendes Pilgerziel ist. Der Name Komorin ist eine Verballhornung des tamilischen Namens Kanniyakumari, welcher „[Ort der] jungfräulichen Prinzessin“ bedeutet und auf die dort verehrte Göttin verweist. Obgleich das Kap Komorin das Südende des indischen Subkontinents markiert, ist er nicht der südlichste Punkt des indischen Staatsgebiets: Die Inselgruppe der Nikobaren liegt noch weiter südlich. Nach dem Tsunami 2004 war die Insel bis über die Füße der Statue von Wasser bedeckt. Kanyakumari, formerly known as Cape Comorin, is a town in Kanyakumari District in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It lies at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent (the southern extremity of India as a whole being Indira Point on Great Nicobar Island). Cape Comorin is the southern tip of the Cardamom Hills, an extension of the Western Ghats range along the west coast of India. The nearest major city is Nagercoil, the administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari District, 22 km (14 mi) away. Kanyakumari was one of the important towns of the ancient Tamilakam (Sangam period) and is a popular tourist destination.
