Large numbers of tiny female flowers form a dense, sausage-shaped spike on the stem below the male spike. In larger species this can be up to 30 centimetres (12 in) long and 1 to 4 centimetres (0.4 to 2 in) thick. The seeds are minute, 0.2 millimetres (0.008 in) long, and attached to fine hairs. When ripe, the heads disintegrate into a cottony fluff from which the seeds disperse by wind.

Naima

02 Dec 2017 24 37 556
"Naima" is a ballad composed by John Coltrane in 1959 that he named after his wife, Juanita Naima Grubbs. It is notable for its use of a variety of rich chords over a bass pedal. It is mainly made up of a slow melody, and there is also a brief piano solo. It is one of his quieter and more restrained works, and very restful, hence the muted design of the album cover. Nacre inside a Tellin Shell

I remember bringing this shell home from the seaside years ago. It has been lying in the garden ever since. Once cleaned up, one can see how beautiful the inside of the shell is. So it has been put safely in my shell box now.

Not the Sunday Challenge

This morning I had a look for triangles in the garden. Not perfect triangles I have to say.

SSC Minimalism

09 May 2020 29 20 325
Today's challenge is: Minimalism using one item for your subject. This is part of a small but heavy dish that I have used before in the challenges. The bit that looks like a handle on a frying pan is actually part of a gas ring on the cooker. The PiP shows the dish inside a green steamer to give you an idea of the size of it.

I am sailing

The Saturday Self Challenge today is: Minimalism in Still life. The model is a small shiny aluminum sailing boat. Using Photoshop I converted the photo into B&W, then changed the threshold level. Finally I used PicMonkey to add a frame.
